Introduction - to Spiritual Chat 154

Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim. In the name of God, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. Al-salam 'alaykum wa-rahmat Allah wa barakatuhu kulluhu. Wa 'alaykum al-salam wa-rahmat Allah wa-barakatuhu kulluhu.  May all the peace, the beneficence, and the blessing of God be upon us all.  May God help us all.

My love you (anbu), my dearest loving brothers and sisters - Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen (Louie Beutler).

Here is copy of a very important chat between our dear brothers Muhammad Muhaiyaddeen and Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen (Louie Beutler), at the feet of our Father,
Shaikh Muhammad Rahim Bawa Muhaiyaddeen
(may God be pleased with Him), and of His Children (may God be pleased with each of Us).  Amen.

At the direction of Bawa within us, and of God within Him, these two brothers have been chatting over the Internet for the last seven months, almost daily, and during that time have addressed many of the important issues that we all must confront on the path of God, like "who are we", "who is God", and "what is the relationship between the two of us", which was the title of the very first wisdom letter written by this child, by Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen (Louie Beutler) to a brother in Nigeria, Africa, in April of 1989, just over two years since His Holiness died, on December 8th, 1986.

During that time, from January 2004 to July 2004, we have had over a 100 chats, which we are in the process of adding to the On-line "Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Library" so all of you can benefit from them, for they most certainly came to us from God, from Bawa within us, and from God within Him, for all of us, not just for the two of us.  The last of these chats, which we had last Thursday, July 29, 2004 was very important in that it dealt with in a very beautiful way two major issues of our life, the "True Shaikh-Disciple Relationship", explaining what it is, and how to establish it, maintain it, and benefit from it, within our very own life, before it is too late, before the Angel of Death (peace be upon Him) catches up with us, and harvest us, before God has caught us with us, and harvests us. 

Since that time, since our last Spiritual Chat, we have been handing this Spiritual Chat to Bawa within us, and to God within Him, in our daily prayers, in this way, handing it to Them within us, with no "personal agenda", and in this way, then "being done with it".

And out of this process we have been instructed by Bawa within us, and by God within Him, to share this last Spiritual Chat with all of you, along with its companion Spiritual Letter, Spiritual Letter 58, "Discovering The Fault Within Our Faults", which was written by this child, Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen (Louie Beutler) to Muhammad Muhaiyaddeen right after Jum'ah prayers last Friday.  You can access this Spiritual Letter by clicking on the following: Spiritual Letter 58 (www.SpiritualLetter058.homestead.com)

Wa 'alaykum al-salaam my dear, sweet brother Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen. May the Peace and Blessings of Allah, Bawa and Noor Muhammad be with you and with your family. My love you my dear brother. Meechum, meechum anbu.
Do you have some time for wisdom sharing now?

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. Sure.  What would my dear brother like to share?

Muhammad786:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. First I would like to apologize if I have committed any fault this afternoon during my visit with my dear brother. If I have committed any fault toward God or Bawa (may God be pleased with Him.) or Muhammad (blessing and peace be upon Him) or to my brother Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen.

I did say "Bawa" before leaving and asked in my heart what should be done. The understanding that I received was that it was time for me to go home and continue my duties there.

However after I said good-by to my brother I had the feeling that I was cutting short something that Bawa and God had started within both of us and this caused me to feel upset and conflicted.

I am not sure if this was Bawa's message for me at the time (that it was time to leave) or just my concern for how my staying longer would cause trouble at home and therefore due to the turmoil of the mind (or the demon as we were discussing). Does my brother Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen have any clarity on this situation?

If I have committed any fault toward God or Bawa (may God be pleased with Him) or Muhammad (blessing and peace be upon Him) or to my brother Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen, I am deeply sorry and ask for forgiveness from whomever I have offended.

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. We were just as surprised as you, my dear brother, when we turn away from you and walked in, hearing over our shoulder your "anbu", with no answer following from this child.

When we asked Bawa what had happened, saying the word Bawa, establishing the "Presence of God" within us, disappearing within Bawa within us, and within God within Him, the following clarity came into the heart of this child, which Bawa now tells this child to share with his brother, as follows:

When we gave salams, what was said to the two of us was, "Everyone must choose", and what this brother heard coming from his brother was, "Not today". As soon as this was said everything seemed to change within us, and immediately my life literally turned around, without looking back, and went back inside and upstairs. 

When we asked Bawa what had happened He said the following,

          "He turned away from Bawa, so this is what came back to Him, like the
          reflection in a perfectly pure mirror.  What to do?"

This perfectly pure mirror of the heart is what Bawa speaks about in the following discourse that he gave to us on April 26, 1972, as follows:

--- beginning of Spiritual Discourse 02, by His Holiness ---

"Do not think that these are merely words.  Do not think it is just a speech or a song or a poetry or just words.

These are words that come straight from God Himself, and these are not the things that you might have learned in the past.  It is His resonance, and it is His sound, and it is His vibration that comes.  Each sound is His resonance, it is His vibration, and it comes from the divine grace of God.

This is the vibration, this is the sounds that Gabriel (peace be upon Him) brought to each one of His prophets as commandments and as laws.

These divine sounds descend to the perfect Guru.  These sounds are the sounds that come from God directly to the Qutb or to the Qutbiyyat, and from the Qutbiyyat these sounds are given to the disciples.

These sounds come as a result of those who have attained the grace of God, and the truth of God, and have attained to the station of Qutbiyyat (more).

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar (Discourse 002 continues):.

Such a Guru, a Guru who gets His direct communication (from God), the direct vibrations from God, and is able to transmit these direct vibrations to others, is extremely rare in this world.

This state is extremely rare, and these words that come from the divine vibrations is also extremely rare.

This perfect Guru, this Gnostic Guru or the Qutb, gets this from the primary source of God as sounds and vibrations, and He transmits these to His disciples in that same form, with that same Power.

If your heart is like the perfect mirror, where it has the mercurial coating and the polish of the mirror, then these words and these vibrations will penetrate this mirror and would be seen or would be heard in its reflection.

These are not merely words, they are the divine light, they are the light and vibrations of His grace, and of His resonance.

Depending on how we receive these vibrations, and how we keep them in our heart, it is going to give us Its Power.

If you want to understand the secret of the Guru, if you want to understand the age of the Guru, if you want to understand the secret of these vibrations, and if you want to understand the Divine vibrations, you cannot understand them in your present way.

If you want to understand that, then you must fall into that stream, into that pond, which is the heart of the Guru".

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar (Spiritual Discourse 02 - continues).

"It is only when once you fall into His heart that you will be able to understand the meaning of His words.

You might be able to understand His age.  You might be able to understand the meaning of the sounds, or you might be able to understand the things that come out of Him.

Like if you go in the presence of a mirror, and if you stand in front of a mirror, it shows your own reflection. Like that, if you come in the presence of the Guru, and when you stand in front of the Guru, what you see is your own self, your own ignorance, your own monkey mind, and your own characteristics. You see your own self.

You don't see the Guru. You only see yourself. Like if you stand before a mirror you see your own reflection. If you stand before a Guru you will see these aspects of yourself. The Guru will, like the glass, which through its polish, will be able to reflect your own image. 

What the Guru will do is, He will smile, His smile is like the reflection, and He will smile at you, and give you back what your characteristics and your qualities are. He will not reveal Himself to you in that state. What He will do is He will reveal you own monkey mind, (the) spectacle of your vision and your desires. He will return you and ask you to go back with those things that you have seen of yourself. He will not reveal Himself to you."

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar (Spiritual Discourse 02 - continues).

"But if we use (our Iman), our faith, our certitude and our determination. and absorb all the words that come from the Guru, from day to day, and then in that state (of Iman), if we surrender to His divine truth, then it is only in that way that He is going to transmit His vibrations, His grace and His power to you.

But there is a secret to this. Like with your wisdom, (with your current state of consciousness, that is, with your intellect, your intelligence), you will not be able to realize God, you will also with your wisdom, (with your current state of consciousness, that is, with your intellect, your intelligence), you will never be able to realize this perfect Guru or the Qutb.

This Gnostic Guru has two forms. One is what you see as the body with your intellect, with your intelligence. (The other is) the light body which you see (through your Iman), through your faith, certitude, your conviction, your determination, and your wisdom. That is the second form that the Guru has, a light form.

What you will see (depends on this, depends on) whatever weapons you use. If you use your intellect, if you use your mind and your desires to see Him, you will see Him in that reflected form. But if you, (with your Iman), with your certitude, faith, determination and conviction, absorb the words of the Guru, and in that form (of Iman) if you surrender yourself totally to the Guru, then you will see Him in His light form.

Like that, you have two forms or two bodies. One is the world of maya which consists of the five elements and the five senses. That body will show you the world, the glitters of the world, the various spectacles that you see with your vision, the things that you see with your mind and the things that you desire".

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar (Spiritual Discourse 02 - continues).

"But if you want to see the other form that you have, that each disciple has, (which is your light form), then he has got to first surrender himself (with Iman), with the conviction, faith, certitude and determination, (to the truth, to the truth that God alone exists), and (in this way), completely surrender himself in that state (of Iman to the Guru).

When you surrender with this determination, (with this Iman), to the truth, it is like truth surrendering to the truth, and when you do that, then you will be able to see your own light form.

When he surrenders himself in that way, in truth, (then he will be successful and victorious in his life, then his wisdom will reason over his fate, then he will see the 18,000 universes, his body, and everything else within him, as His Holiness next describes in this discourse)."

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar (Spiritual Discourse 02 - continues).

"Then (if the disciple does this correctly, if "truth surrenders to truth" within him, then) he would see the world, the 18,000 universes, his body and everything else; maya and illusion, and the 18,000 worlds, and darkness and the five elements and the five senses, and the mind and the form of the monkey mind, and the dog of desire and its form, and the darkness of the external vision, and its various forms, and the lights in it, and the ignorance and the lack of wisdom, and wisdom and truth.

The Guru will show you all this within yourself, inside your body, in the form of visions, in the form of spectacles, and in the form of wisdom, he will show you all these forms.

He will show (you), in addition to what your mind, your desires and your external vision has already perceived, he will show you the other 17,000 universes. He will show you, and He will make you understand, this world, the world of hell, the world of heavens, the world of maya, and the world of your body.

He will explain this to you, and He will also show you the path by which you can reach God. The path by which you could, through your wisdom, and through His grace, be able to reach and merge with God."

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar (Spiritual Discourse 02 - continues).

"What is the light that illuminates our (path of) wisdom? (They) are the divine words that come from the Guru. So that we have got to take these words and keep it imprinted permanently in our heart. When this light of this wisdom becomes perfection then it becomes the Nur.

When this perfection comes within you, then this perfection lights the beauty of your heart and the countenance of the face with its perfection, with the Nur, and with that you will able to see everything in all the entire universes.

He may say different things of the different worlds and when he says certain things of certain worlds, then what happens, is that you have got to absorb the words that he says and fix it in the mirror of your heart, and at the time when you want to perceive that particular world, then you would be able to perceive it through that wisdom, and through that knowledge, that he has been conveying to you through words.

You will be able to see your body, you will able to see the world, you will be able to see the four quadrillion glitters in this earth. You will be able to see the four quadrillion deities which represent the four quadrillion glitters of this earth. You will be able to see these four quadrillion deities which are worshipped as equals of God.

Every word of the Guru that you take, and you imprint it on your heart, on the heart of your wisdom, becomes the divine map that is drawn. The map that will show you everything that need be shown, and the path which you should reach God, and it will be all given in that map.

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar (Spiritual Discourse 02 - continues).

"The world that he says in his words should be mapped in the heart of your wisdom, and then when he speaks about the hell and the heavens, these should be mapped in the heart of your wisdom. When he speaks about the body and the five elements and the five senses, this should be mapped in the heart of your wisdom.

When he talks of this, of the light form of your body, you must draw this map and fix it or imprint this map in the heart of your wisdom, knowing what the map of the body contains, and what maya is, and also you must know what this light form of your body is, and what the grace of God is.

You must also know the seventy battalions of monkeys that go to form the mind. That should be mapped in your wisdom. Then you must understand and map it in your wisdom the 105 million types of desires which represent the desire of the dog. The body which is the world of maya, and spectacle of vision which is the world of darkness, should also be mapped out in your heart. All these things must be mapped out and imprinted in your heart."

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar (Spiritual Discourse 02 - continues).

"Like this, the millions and millions of things that the Guru might speak of, if these things are imprinted in your heart, then the Guru who now resides in your wisdom as the Divine Luminous Wisdom, when your wisdom now asks this Guru who is within your wisdom, as God is within The Guru.

Then when you surrender, and become the Truth that lies within the wisdom, when that wisdom begins to emanate, (to make its presence known within us), when you ask your wisdom certain questions, then the Guru that lies within that wisdom, he will immediately explain anything that you want.

Whether you want to see them or whether you want to ask any questions and get answers back, he will do this intuitively. He will give you the meaning of things that you want. He will show you things that you want and he will reveal everything that you want of the things that you ask of him.

Then he will show the God who is within the Guru and the Guru within your wisdom, and you as truth within the wisdom, as one. He will show that these three are one.

But if you don't map out in the correct way that you should do it, if you do not map out every word of what the Guru says, the divine vibration that he gives you in that map, then you will not know the path to go to God, and to reach Him.

So this word map that the Guru gives you is The Map by which you could see all the things that you want to see, and it is also the path by which you could see God and reach Him.

You must draw this map in a perfect manner. Every word that comes from the Guru, everything that comes from the Guru, your hearts must be ready to receive and get it imprinted on it."

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar (Spiritual Discourse 02 - continues).

"On the other hand if you don't use your wisdom to have these words imprinted on the permanent map in your heart, but you use your mind, your desires, and your external visions to receive this, then what will happen, is these words will reflect back and go back to your place of birth. So that if we try to map this out with our mind, our desires and our vision, then this is going to return to our place of birth.

But on the other hand, (with our Iman), with our firm determination, with our faith, with our certitude and conviction, if we absorb the words of the Guru and imprint these words of the Guru in the heart of our wisdom, then that map becomes permanently fixed in it, and is going to serve you the purpose for which you are searching."

3.  A Corpse Does Not Have Its Own Agenda - because as a corpse "we" have finally put down all of the "veils of hypocrisy" and all of the "schemes of the mind" that
have defined "us" when "we" lived on the "outside" of us, before we died, that have separated "us" from God during our life time on the earth

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. Well, I can see that the first (the only?) problem was that I came to visit today with an agenda. I had a plan which was to see my brother, say hello and stay for half an hour. Instead I should have come like a corpse being delivered over to the hands of the one who will wash it. The corpse does not have its own agenda. It is there to be cleaned and will wait just as long as it takes for the job to be finished, being content the entire time and not fidgeting.

4. Is Bawa Still Alive, or Did He Die? - this is a question that we all must answer, and realize that our truthful answer to this question is the answer to our life

Muhammad786:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. There is one question that  I had about something Bawa says in this discourse or in the other discourse that he gave that day. Unfortunately I can't find it right now but I will keep looking.

In it Bawa says something about,

          "How can you expect to accomplish this when the Guru is no longer in this
          world. You must do this while he is still alive."

Do you recall the passage that  I am referring to? I would like to have some clarity on this.

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. Yes, and we believe it is in the beautiful book of wisdom, "Shaikh and Disciple", either in the "Introduction" or in "Chapter 1". 

And in the first of these two discourses, on April 26, 1972, Spiritual Discourse 01:"How To Merge With The Guru", Bawa gives the solution to this apparent problem. 

When we say the word Bawa, establishing the "Presence of God" within us, disappearing within Bawa within us, and within God within Him, before we "say or do" anything, the following clarity comes into the heart of this child on this question, as follows:

First, what does it mean that He is alive?  Does that mean He is in the world or within the heart of His Children, who are treating Him as alive within them.

Second, He says in the first of the two discourses the following:

"So, my children must understand this clearly.

You have a Guru. You are very lucky to have a Guru, and you are very lucky to have a very perfect Guru.

He may be in this world for some more time. (And), I request that you, even later, ever after that, (that you help) other children who may come and see you. Then it is your duty to take them, and hand them over to the Guru. So that they will also find their own salvation.

The Guru that you have in this world could be the only Guru. And even if you do not know who this Guru is now, once you have handed over your entire responsibility to the Guru, then perhaps you may come to know who the Guru is in fact.

But to see that Guru, you have to have that firm determination and certitude. He will not search for your help. He will not search for the help of the disciples. All that He will search for or perform are God's duties, and God's commandments".

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar.

Third, and perhaps the most helpful clarity that came into the heart of this child, about the True Shaikh-Disciple Relationship, after the physical Guru has left the world is the following, that Bawa has taught us,

          "If two of you come together in My Name, I will be there."

5.  Everyone Is Always Doing The Very Best They Can - if they could do any
better they would

Muhammad786:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. One other thing for now. My wife and I had a talk about
duty and the relationship with the Guru and our visits with you and so forth. One thing
that she said was that it is not necessary to try to disappear within the Shaikh (my
paraphrasing of her words since I don't remember exactly) or to cease to exist.

All that is necessary is to do your duty as Bawa told us before. Say five times prayer,
act with good qualities, do duty to the Fellowship, be a good husband and father, read
Bawa's books, listen to Bawa's discourses, hold down a job, etc.

If you do this then Bawa will take care of the section of you ceasing to exist and
disappearing within God. That is his duty. So if you do your duty he will do his duty.

Now this is fine to some extent but I see some flaws in this reasoning (or
understanding). Does anything come to you to share in this regard?

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. That is a very good question, and a very beautiful
description given by our dear sister and your dear sister/wife, and on one level she is
correct, but like with a little baby, first we feed it breast milk, then soft food, and
gradually the child is able to eat the same food as the adult.

Like this, we must start with what your sister/wife has explained, which is the like the
breast milk, and then gradually move up to trusting in God and in God alone, and then
letting our soul join with our wisdom, in this way destroying the life of "separation and
differences" that we are currently living with our brothers and sisters in the world that
we see in our collective ignorance as "existing" on the "outside" of us, and in the
process opening up the 6th life within us, the palace of the soul within us, the house of
wisdom within us, the house of Qutb Muhaiyaddeen Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani (may God
be pleased with Him) within us. Amen.

Each must decide for him/her self what is now the appropriate food for them to eat, and
when it is time to put down one type of food and pick up the next type. Ok?

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. One last thing. During our last sharing, after we had read
the second section of page two of Spiritual Letter 01, "Who are we?,  Who is God?, and What is the Relationship Between Us?", which was written in April 1989, to the brother in Nigeria, Africa, you asked if any clarity had come to me after saying "Bawa" and disappearing within him and then reading the section. I said that nothing had really
come and asked you if you had anything to share.

You said, "Yes" but then said that I should go to bed. Would you like to share now
what it was that you had to share then - had I not been so tired at the time. Is it still
there? Or has is gone back into that place of unity and oneness from whence it came
originally?

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. Section 2 was called:

          2)  We Have Come To The "School of Contrasts" - called the world to
          understand "Who We Are, Who God Is, And The Relationship Between Us"

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. What we shared this afternoon, both upstairs and on the
back porch, right before you left, was the heart of it, which for this child was the most
wonderful, most clear explanation that this child has ever heard. Al-hamdu lillah. Allah
Akbar.

We are so truly blessed to have each other, to have all of our brothers and sisters, and
to have our Father, Shaikh Muhammad Rahim Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (may God be
pleased with Him), and His Children (may God be pleased with each of Us), and to
have God within Him. Amen.

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. And it all comes down to, knowing "who we are", and
"who Bawa is", and "who God is", and knowing what Bawa within us, and God within
Him, what They are doing within us, and then joining with Them in what He is doing
within us, so it can occur within us.

And what He is doing within us is revealing True Man within the Creation of God within
us, as the "Oneness of God and the Creation of God" within us, so True Man within us
can reveal God within the Creation of True Man within us, as the "Oneness of True Man
and His Creation" within us.  In this way, revealing the "Oneness of God and True Man"
within us, which in truth is God and True Man within us.  Amen.

6.  Closing Wisdom Point - it all comes down to, knowing "who we are", and "who Bawa is", and "who God is", and knowing what Bawa within us, and God within Him, are doing within us, what They are doing within us, and then joining with Them within us, becoming "One with" Them within us, and "One with" what They are doing within us, which is "True Man happening" within the Creation of God within us, and "God happening" within Bawa within us.  Amen

Tomorrow is another day, if God and Bawa grant that we live that long. So let's let go of today and see what God has for us tomorrow

          "Not a blade of grass moves without God's permission".

          cause and the effect."

So everything is perfect. So

          "Settle into stillness through the realization that everything is perfect".

Introduction - to Spiritual Chat 154

Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim. In the name of God, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. Al-salam 'alaykum wa-rahmat Allah wa barakatuhu kulluhu. Wa 'alaykum al-salam wa-rahmat Allah wa-barakatuhu kulluhu.  May all the peace, the beneficence, and the blessing of God be upon us all.  May God help us all.

My love you (anbu), my dearest loving brothers and sisters - Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen (Louie Beutler).

Here is copy of a very important chat between our dear brothers Muhammad Muhaiyaddeen and Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen (Louie Beutler), at the feet of our Father,
Shaikh Muhammad Rahim Bawa Muhaiyaddeen
(may God be pleased with Him), and of His Children (may God be pleased with each of Us).  Amen.

At the direction of Bawa within us, and of God within Him, these two brothers have been chatting over the Internet for the last seven months, almost daily, and during that time have addressed many of the important issues that we all must confront on the path of God, like "who are we", "who is God", and "what is the relationship between the two of us", which was the title of the very first wisdom letter written by this child, by Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen (Louie Beutler) to a brother in Nigeria, Africa, in April of 1989, just over two years since His Holiness died, on December 8th, 1986.

During that time, from January 2004 to July 2004, we have had over a 100 chats, which we are in the process of adding to the On-line "Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Library" so all of you can benefit from them, for they most certainly came to us from God, from Bawa within us, and from God within Him, for all of us, not just for the two of us.  The last of these chats, which we had last Thursday, July 29, 2004 was very important in that it dealt with in a very beautiful way two major issues of our life, the "True Shaikh-Disciple Relationship", explaining what it is, and how to establish it, maintain it, and benefit from it, within our very own life, before it is too late, before the Angel of Death (peace be upon Him) catches up with us, and harvest us, before God has caught us with us, and harvests us. 

Since that time, since our last Spiritual Chat, we have been handing this Spiritual Chat to Bawa within us, and to God within Him, in our daily prayers, in this way, handing it to Them within us, with no "personal agenda", and in this way, then "being done with it".

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. Sure.  What would my dear brother like to share?

Muhammad786:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. First I would like to apologize if I have committed any fault this afternoon during my visit with my dear brother. If I have committed any fault toward God or Bawa (may God be pleased with Him.) or Muhammad (blessing and peace be upon Him) or to my brother Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen.

I did say "Bawa" before leaving and asked in my heart what should be done. The understanding that I received was that it was time for me to go home and continue my duties there.

However after I said good-by to my brother I had the feeling that I was cutting short something that Bawa and God had started within both of us and this caused me to feel upset and conflicted.

I am not sure if this was Bawa's message for me at the time (that it was time to leave) or just my concern for how my staying longer would cause trouble at home and therefore due to the turmoil of the mind (or the demon as we were discussing). Does my brother Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen have any clarity on this situation?

If I have committed any fault toward God or Bawa (may God be pleased with Him) or Muhammad (blessing and peace be upon Him) or to my brother Shaikh Muhaiyaddeen, I am deeply sorry and ask for forgiveness from whomever I have offended.

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. We were just as surprised as you, my dear brother, when we turn away from you and walked in, hearing over our shoulder your "anbu", with no answer following from this child.

When we asked Bawa what had happened, saying the word Bawa, establishing the "Presence of God" within us, disappearing within Bawa within us, and within God within Him, the following clarity came into the heart of this child, which Bawa now tells this child to share with his brother, as follows:

When we gave salams, what was said to the two of us was, "Everyone must choose", and what this brother heard coming from his brother was, "Not today". As soon as this was said everything seemed to change within us, and immediately my life literally turned around, without looking back, and went back inside and upstairs. 

When we asked Bawa what had happened He said the following,

          "He turned away from Bawa, so this is what came back to Him, like the
          reflection in a perfectly pure mirror.  What to do?"

This perfectly pure mirror of the heart is what Bawa speaks about in the following discourse that he gave to us on April 26, 1972, as follows:

--- beginning of Spiritual Discourse 02, by His Holiness ---

"Do not think that these are merely words.  Do not think it is just a speech or a song or a poetry or just words.

These are words that come straight from God Himself, and these are not the things that you might have learned in the past.  It is His resonance, and it is His sound, and it is His vibration that comes.  Each sound is His resonance, it is His vibration, and it comes from the divine grace of God.

This is the vibration, this is the sounds that Gabriel (peace be upon Him) brought to each one of His prophets as commandments and as laws.

These divine sounds descend to the perfect Guru.  These sounds are the sounds that come from God directly to the Qutb or to the Qutbiyyat, and from the Qutbiyyat these sounds are given to the disciples.

These sounds come as a result of those who have attained the grace of God, and the truth of God, and have attained to the station of Qutbiyyat (more).

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar (Discourse 002 continues):.

Such a Guru, a Guru who gets His direct communication (from God), the direct vibrations from God, and is able to transmit these direct vibrations to others, is extremely rare in this world.

This state is extremely rare, and these words that come from the divine vibrations is also extremely rare.

This perfect Guru, this Gnostic Guru or the Qutb, gets this from the primary source of God as sounds and vibrations, and He transmits these to His disciples in that same form, with that same Power.

If your heart is like the perfect mirror, where it has the mercurial coating and the polish of the mirror, then these words and these vibrations will penetrate this mirror and would be seen or would be heard in its reflection.

These are not merely words, they are the divine light, they are the light and vibrations of His grace, and of His resonance.

Depending on how we receive these vibrations, and how we keep them in our heart, it is going to give us Its Power.

If you want to understand the secret of the Guru, if you want to understand the age of the Guru, if you want to understand the secret of these vibrations, and if you want to understand the Divine vibrations, you cannot understand them in your present way.

If you want to understand that, then you must fall into that stream, into that pond, which is the heart of the Guru".

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar (Spiritual Discourse 02 - continues).

"It is only when once you fall into His heart that you will be able to understand the meaning of His words.

You might be able to understand His age.  You might be able to understand the meaning of the sounds, or you might be able to understand the things that come out of Him.

Like if you go in the presence of a mirror, and if you stand in front of a mirror, it shows your own reflection. Like that, if you come in the presence of the Guru, and when you stand in front of the Guru, what you see is your own self, your own ignorance, your own monkey mind, and your own characteristics. You see your own self.

You don't see the Guru. You only see yourself. Like if you stand before a mirror you see your own reflection. If you stand before a Guru you will see these aspects of yourself. The Guru will, like the glass, which through its polish, will be able to reflect your own image. 

What the Guru will do is, He will smile, His smile is like the reflection, and He will smile at you, and give you back what your characteristics and your qualities are. He will not reveal Himself to you in that state. What He will do is He will reveal you own monkey mind, (the) spectacle of your vision and your desires. He will return you and ask you to go back with those things that you have seen of yourself. He will not reveal Himself to you."

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar (Spiritual Discourse 02 - continues).

"But if we use (our Iman), our faith, our certitude and our determination. and absorb all the words that come from the Guru, from day to day, and then in that state (of Iman), if we surrender to His divine truth, then it is only in that way that He is going to transmit His vibrations, His grace and His power to you.

But there is a secret to this. Like with your wisdom, (with your current state of consciousness, that is, with your intellect, your intelligence), you will not be able to realize God, you will also with your wisdom, (with your current state of consciousness, that is, with your intellect, your intelligence), you will never be able to realize this perfect Guru or the Qutb.

This Gnostic Guru has two forms. One is what you see as the body with your intellect, with your intelligence. (The other is) the light body which you see (through your Iman), through your faith, certitude, your conviction, your determination, and your wisdom. That is the second form that the Guru has, a light form.

What you will see (depends on this, depends on) whatever weapons you use. If you use your intellect, if you use your mind and your desires to see Him, you will see Him in that reflected form. But if you, (with your Iman), with your certitude, faith, determination and conviction, absorb the words of the Guru, and in that form (of Iman) if you surrender yourself totally to the Guru, then you will see Him in His light form.

Like that, you have two forms or two bodies. One is the world of maya which consists of the five elements and the five senses. That body will show you the world, the glitters of the world, the various spectacles that you see with your vision, the things that you see with your mind and the things that you desire".

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar (Spiritual Discourse 02 - continues).

"But if you want to see the other form that you have, that each disciple has, (which is your light form), then he has got to first surrender himself (with Iman), with the conviction, faith, certitude and determination, (to the truth, to the truth that God alone exists), and (in this way), completely surrender himself in that state (of Iman to the Guru).

When you surrender with this determination, (with this Iman), to the truth, it is like truth surrendering to the truth, and when you do that, then you will be able to see your own light form.

When he surrenders himself in that way, in truth, (then he will be successful and victorious in his life, then his wisdom will reason over his fate, then he will see the 18,000 universes, his body, and everything else within him, as His Holiness next describes in this discourse)."

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar (Spiritual Discourse 02 - continues).

"Then (if the disciple does this correctly, if "truth surrenders to truth" within him, then) he would see the world, the 18,000 universes, his body and everything else; maya and illusion, and the 18,000 worlds, and darkness and the five elements and the five senses, and the mind and the form of the monkey mind, and the dog of desire and its form, and the darkness of the external vision, and its various forms, and the lights in it, and the ignorance and the lack of wisdom, and wisdom and truth.

The Guru will show you all this within yourself, inside your body, in the form of visions, in the form of spectacles, and in the form of wisdom, he will show you all these forms.

He will show (you), in addition to what your mind, your desires and your external vision has already perceived, he will show you the other 17,000 universes. He will show you, and He will make you understand, this world, the world of hell, the world of heavens, the world of maya, and the world of your body.

He will explain this to you, and He will also show you the path by which you can reach God. The path by which you could, through your wisdom, and through His grace, be able to reach and merge with God."

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar (Spiritual Discourse 02 - continues).

"What is the light that illuminates our (path of) wisdom? (They) are the divine words that come from the Guru. So that we have got to take these words and keep it imprinted permanently in our heart. When this light of this wisdom becomes perfection then it becomes the Nur.

When this perfection comes within you, then this perfection lights the beauty of your heart and the countenance of the face with its perfection, with the Nur, and with that you will able to see everything in all the entire universes.

He may say different things of the different worlds and when he says certain things of certain worlds, then what happens, is that you have got to absorb the words that he says and fix it in the mirror of your heart, and at the time when you want to perceive that particular world, then you would be able to perceive it through that wisdom, and through that knowledge, that he has been conveying to you through words.

You will be able to see your body, you will able to see the world, you will be able to see the four quadrillion glitters in this earth. You will be able to see the four quadrillion deities which represent the four quadrillion glitters of this earth. You will be able to see these four quadrillion deities which are worshipped as equals of God.

Every word of the Guru that you take, and you imprint it on your heart, on the heart of your wisdom, becomes the divine map that is drawn. The map that will show you everything that need be shown, and the path which you should reach God, and it will be all given in that map.

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar (Spiritual Discourse 02 - continues).

"The world that he says in his words should be mapped in the heart of your wisdom, and then when he speaks about the hell and the heavens, these should be mapped in the heart of your wisdom. When he speaks about the body and the five elements and the five senses, this should be mapped in the heart of your wisdom.

When he talks of this, of the light form of your body, you must draw this map and fix it or imprint this map in the heart of your wisdom, knowing what the map of the body contains, and what maya is, and also you must know what this light form of your body is, and what the grace of God is.

You must also know the seventy battalions of monkeys that go to form the mind. That should be mapped in your wisdom. Then you must understand and map it in your wisdom the 105 million types of desires which represent the desire of the dog. The body which is the world of maya, and spectacle of vision which is the world of darkness, should also be mapped out in your heart. All these things must be mapped out and imprinted in your heart."

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar (Spiritual Discourse 02 - continues).

"Like this, the millions and millions of things that the Guru might speak of, if these things are imprinted in your heart, then the Guru who now resides in your wisdom as the Divine Luminous Wisdom, when your wisdom now asks this Guru who is within your wisdom, as God is within The Guru.

Then when you surrender, and become the Truth that lies within the wisdom, when that wisdom begins to emanate, (to make its presence known within us), when you ask your wisdom certain questions, then the Guru that lies within that wisdom, he will immediately explain anything that you want.

Whether you want to see them or whether you want to ask any questions and get answers back, he will do this intuitively. He will give you the meaning of things that you want. He will show you things that you want and he will reveal everything that you want of the things that you ask of him.

Then he will show the God who is within the Guru and the Guru within your wisdom, and you as truth within the wisdom, as one. He will show that these three are one.

But if you don't map out in the correct way that you should do it, if you do not map out every word of what the Guru says, the divine vibration that he gives you in that map, then you will not know the path to go to God, and to reach Him.

So this word map that the Guru gives you is The Map by which you could see all the things that you want to see, and it is also the path by which you could see God and reach Him.

You must draw this map in a perfect manner. Every word that comes from the Guru, everything that comes from the Guru, your hearts must be ready to receive and get it imprinted on it."

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar (Spiritual Discourse 02 - continues).

"On the other hand if you don't use your wisdom to have these words imprinted on the permanent map in your heart, but you use your mind, your desires, and your external visions to receive this, then what will happen, is these words will reflect back and go back to your place of birth. So that if we try to map this out with our mind, our desires and our vision, then this is going to return to our place of birth.

But on the other hand, (with our Iman), with our firm determination, with our faith, with our certitude and conviction, if we absorb the words of the Guru and imprint these words of the Guru in the heart of our wisdom, then that map becomes permanently fixed in it, and is going to serve you the purpose for which you are searching."

3.  A Corpse Does Not Have Its Own Agenda - because as a corpse "we" have finally put down all of the "veils of hypocrisy" and all of the "schemes of the mind" that
have defined "us" when "we" lived on the "outside" of us, before we died, that have separated "us" from God during our life time on the earth

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. Well, I can see that the first (the only?) problem was that I came to visit today with an agenda. I had a plan which was to see my brother, say hello and stay for half an hour. Instead I should have come like a corpse being delivered over to the hands of the one who will wash it. The corpse does not have its own agenda. It is there to be cleaned and will wait just as long as it takes for the job to be finished, being content the entire time and not fidgeting.

4. Is Bawa Still Alive, or Did He Die? - this is a question that we all must answer, and realize that our truthful answer to this question is the answer to our life

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. There is one question that  I had about something Bawa says in this discourse or in the other discourse that he gave that day. Unfortunately I can't find it right now but I will keep looking.

In it Bawa says something about,

          "How can you expect to accomplish this when the Guru is no longer in this
          world. You must do this while he is still alive."

Do you recall the passage that  I am referring to? I would like to have some clarity on this.

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. Yes, and we believe it is in the beautiful book of wisdom, "Shaikh and Disciple", either in the "Introduction" or in "Chapter 1". 

And in the first of these two discourses, on April 26, 1972, Spiritual Discourse 01:"How To Merge With The Guru", Bawa gives the solution to this apparent problem. 

When we say the word Bawa, establishing the "Presence of God" within us, disappearing within Bawa within us, and within God within Him, before we "say or do" anything, the following clarity comes into the heart of this child on this question, as follows:

First, what does it mean that He is alive?  Does that mean He is in the world or within the heart of His Children, who are treating Him as alive within them.

Second, He says in the first of the two discourses the following:

"So, my children must understand this clearly.

You have a Guru. You are very lucky to have a Guru, and you are very lucky to have a very perfect Guru.

He may be in this world for some more time. (And), I request that you, even later, ever after that, (that you help) other children who may come and see you. Then it is your duty to take them, and hand them over to the Guru. So that they will also find their own salvation.

The Guru that you have in this world could be the only Guru. And even if you do not know who this Guru is now, once you have handed over your entire responsibility to the Guru, then perhaps you may come to know who the Guru is in fact.

But to see that Guru, you have to have that firm determination and certitude. He will not search for your help. He will not search for the help of the disciples. All that He will search for or perform are God's duties, and God's commandments".

Third, and perhaps the most helpful clarity that came into the heart of this child, about the True Shaikh-Disciple Relationship, after the physical Guru has left the world is the following, that Bawa has taught us,

          "If two of you come together in My Name, I will be there."

5.  Everyone Is Always Doing The Very Best They Can - if they could do any
better they would

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. One other thing for now. My wife and I had a talk about
duty and the relationship with the Guru and our visits with you and so forth. One thing
that she said was that it is not necessary to try to disappear within the Shaikh (my
paraphrasing of her words since I don't remember exactly) or to cease to exist.

All that is necessary is to do your duty as Bawa told us before. Say five times prayer,
act with good qualities, do duty to the Fellowship, be a good husband and father, read
Bawa's books, listen to Bawa's discourses, hold down a job, etc.

If you do this then Bawa will take care of the section of you ceasing to exist and
disappearing within God. That is his duty. So if you do your duty he will do his duty.

Now this is fine to some extent but I see some flaws in this reasoning (or
understanding). Does anything come to you to share in this regard?

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. That is a very good question, and a very beautiful
description given by our dear sister and your dear sister/wife, and on one level she is
correct, but like with a little baby, first we feed it breast milk, then soft food, and
gradually the child is able to eat the same food as the adult.

Like this, we must start with what your sister/wife has explained, which is the like the
breast milk, and then gradually move up to trusting in God and in God alone, and then
letting our soul join with our wisdom, in this way destroying the life of "separation and
differences" that we are currently living with our brothers and sisters in the world that
we see in our collective ignorance as "existing" on the "outside" of us, and in the
process opening up the 6th life within us, the palace of the soul within us, the house of
wisdom within us, the house of Qutb Muhaiyaddeen Abdul-Qadir al-Jilani (may God
be pleased with Him) within us. Amen.

Each must decide for him/her self what is now the appropriate food for them to eat, and
when it is time to put down one type of food and pick up the next type. Ok?

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. One last thing. During our last sharing, after we had read
the second section of page two of Spiritual Letter 01, "Who are we?,  Who is God?, and What is the Relationship Between Us?", which was written in April 1989, to the brother in Nigeria, Africa, you asked if any clarity had come to me after saying "Bawa" and disappearing within him and then reading the section. I said that nothing had really
come and asked you if you had anything to share.

You said, "Yes" but then said that I should go to bed. Would you like to share now
what it was that you had to share then - had I not been so tired at the time. Is it still
there? Or has is gone back into that place of unity and oneness from whence it came
originally?

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. Section 2 was called:

          2)  We Have Come To The "School of Contrasts" - called the world to
          understand "Who We Are, Who God Is, And The Relationship Between Us"

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. What we shared this afternoon, both upstairs and on the
back porch, right before you left, was the heart of it, which for this child was the most
wonderful, most clear explanation that this child has ever heard. Al-hamdu lillah. Allah
Akbar.

We are so truly blessed to have each other, to have all of our brothers and sisters, and
to have our Father, Shaikh Muhammad Rahim Bawa Muhaiyaddeen (may God be
pleased with Him), and His Children (may God be pleased with each of Us), and to
have God within Him. Amen.

MuhaiyaddeenLB:

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. And it all comes down to, knowing "who we are", and
"who Bawa is", and "who God is", and knowing what Bawa within us, and God within
Him, what They are doing within us, and then joining with Them in what He is doing
within us, so it can occur within us.

And what He is doing within us is revealing True Man within the Creation of God within
us, as the "Oneness of God and the Creation of God" within us, so True Man within us
can reveal God within the Creation of True Man within us, as the "Oneness of True Man
and His Creation" within us.  In this way, revealing the "Oneness of God and True Man"
within us, which in truth is God and True Man within us.  Amen.

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. My love you my dearest loving brother Muhammad

6.  Closing Wisdom Point - it all comes down to, knowing "who we are", and "who Bawa is", and "who God is", and knowing what Bawa within us, and God within Him, are doing within us, what They are doing within us, and then joining with Them within us, becoming "One with" Them within us, and "One with" what They are doing within us, which is "True Man happening" within the Creation of God within us, and "God happening" within Bawa within us.  Amen

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. Yes it was very beautiful and very clear and understandable. And this child should have stayed until it was truly finished. So we take the experience and hand it over to Bawa within and then be done with it. Allowing him to do with it what he will.

Tomorrow is another day, if God and Bawa grant that we live that long. So let's let go of today and see what God has for us tomorrow

Yes, that is enough for today. My love you very, very much my dear brother. Meechum, meechum anbu.

Al-hamdu lillah. Allahu Akbar. Yes, and may we both remember, as Bawa teaches us that,

          "Not a blade of grass moves without God's permission". 

And,

          "Our entire life, and everything that happens to us, is conducted by Allahu,
          not by us.  He is the One who carries our everything. He is responsible for the
          cause and the effect."

So everything is perfect. So

          "Settle into stillness through the realization that everything is perfect".
